           Grace M. Breckwedel Middle School

The Grace M. Breckwedel Middle School was built in 1967 to replace Jamesburg School No. 1. It was named after Ms. Grace M. Breckwedel, a long time teacher and principal of the school. The land that the school now sits on was the original site of Jamesburg's Grammar School (School No. 1) and original Jamesburg High School (School No. 2). School No. 1 was torn down after a fire in the early 1960s and the left half of the current building was constructed. The new Grace M. Breckwedel School boasted eight classrooms, a teachers lounge, small instructional room, nurse's office, main office, principal's office, restrooms, and two storage closets. Two classrooms with a temporary wall dividing them was opened up to use during gym periods. School No. 2 was used as an annex until it was torn down in 1987.

In 1988, the school was running out of space to serve its student population. An addition was necessary and built on the site of School No. 2. The new addition included a long awaited, full size gymnasium, kitchen, library/computer lab, music room, three clasrooms, guidance counselor's office, meeting room, storage closet, and more restrooms. The main office was also expanded at this time and a small parking lot was added to the back of the school yard.

GMB has seen a lot of changes over the years. These changes include students, teachers, staff, buildings, and memories. It seems with all of the changes that have taken place over the years our future looks brighter and better every time we walk through those doors!!
