National Junior Honor Society -
Grace M. Breckwedel Chapter
The Grace M. Breckwedel Middle School is a participating member of the NJHS.
This organization is part of the National Honor Society, the oldest and most
respected organization for recognizing the academic accomplishments of young
scholars in America. We are very proud to have been associated with the NJHS since
1998, and to recognize our responsibility to insure that all of our students who are
admitted to the Society meet the lofty standards expected by NJHS.
Any student in the seventh and eighth grade of the GMB School, who meets the
challenging academic standards set forth by the organization's Charter,
is eligible for selection and possible induction.
Who is eligible for admission?:
- Any seventh grade student who has earned an average of 90% or higher in their Core subjects
through the sixth grade and the first three marking periods of their seventh grade academic year
is eligible to apply for admission.
- Any eighth grade student who has earned an average of 87.5% or higher in their Core
subjects through the seventh grade and the first three marking periods of their eighth
grade year is eligible to apply for admission.
The Selection Process:
- Any eligible student can apply for membership.
- Candidates must complete a formal application.
- Candidates must submit a letter of recommendation.
- Candidates must have demonstrated leadership, service, and character.
- All eligible candidates will be:
- screened by a Faculty Committee that reviews their application and letters of reference.
- Certifies them as eligible for admission.
- Evaluated by the entire staff for admission to the Society.
- Students will be inducted in the spring of the year.
Loss of Membership:
- Any student who is assigned two or more "In or Out of School Suspensions" in one academic
year will not be eligible for admission into the NJHS.
- Members of the NJHS will be automatically removed from the NJHS on the occasion of their
second school suspension.
- Students who were admitted to the Society in the seventh grade will be removed from the
Grace M. Breckwedel Chapter of the NJHS if their overall academic average in the CORE area
subject falls below 87.5 at the end of the third marking period of their eighth grade year.
The advisor for the National Junior Honor Society is Ms. Strumwasser,
Computer Technology teacher.
