Future Dreams of America
Caitlin J.
Seventh Grade - First Place

On August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “I have a dream.” His dream was that all men and women be treated equal and not judged by their race or their religion. Martin Luther King Jr. wanted fair treatment.

Today I have a dream; my dream is that we would have World Peace. The American Heritage Dictionary defines peace as “the absence of war and hostilities.” To be free from war thousands of lives will be saved and families across the world will come together and befriend each other. As each day goes on we will never have to worry about terrorist and/or about bombing threats because of world peace. There will be arguing by debating countries about wars and terrorism. People all over the world should be able to live our lives without fear or worry. World Peace would bring all nations and countries together. We could prevent illness and send medicines to countries that are in need. If every one in the world could become a peace maker and settle arguments we could be on our way to world peace.

It is necessary for us to have dreams and goals for the future because we can build on our dreams and goals. Our goals for the future can influence the lives of people in the world. If you really believe in your dreams you can make it happen. Dreams and/or goals can pave the road in live you choose to take. You can always have dreams and goals in your life to back you up, even when there is nothing for you to look forward to in the future.

The American Dream
By Jenna F.

A dream, a cherished hope or ambition, is what I have in my predictions of the near future for this country and the world. Like many other leaders, I have a dream. I believe that a dream is the foundation for a strong and successful national culture. Culture, the intellectual development of a time or place, is a key factor in my dream along with reconciliation, justice, peace, and cultural understanding. I have a dream for America, which is the dream for the world. I believe it only takes on e dream to make a change or difference but in order to flourish it needs the belief of many. For example, Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream for equality of African Americans. But due to the beliefs, dedication, and determination of supporters, African Americans earned the right to vote, receive equal education, and the freedom to live their lives as any other human.

My dream for present day and forever more is for all people to be treated equal despite race, religious beliefs, gender, or skin tone. This has been the dream of many leaders and their supporters since the civil war to the present day where I believe the same. Although steps have been taken and progress has been made, the dream has not yet been completely fulfilled. As a nation we need to understand the importance of diversity and except others for who or what they are. It takes many cultural contributions to form a successful and efficient nation in which I want to live and prosper.

A dream is created due to a problem that needs change as in the case of slavery. Slavery was not a choice for any Blacks. However, without the dreams of Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglas, and Sojourner Truth, African Americans would have kept their emotions hid and remained content with their situation, which would have altered history as we know it and in turn change present day. That being the case, it is not enough to dream it5 is also imperative that we as a nation have the courage and endurance to turn my dream into a reality. Without a dream there is nothing to strive for: hence, no future.

It Pays to Dream

“I Have A Dream.” These famous words were spoken by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during his famous Civil Rights speech. Dr. King had a dream for equality and justice for all people throughout the world no matter what skin color they have. Without these famous words and Dr. King’s dream, we might still have a world full of hatred and racism today.

My dream for the future is for there to be peace around the world. If this dream is fulfilled, children won’t have to worry about their parents or older brothers and sisters being killed or hurt in a war or an attack. This would give children less to worry about. Really, anyone who thinks about it will realize we would have better lives. We would be able to go places without being worried about being bombed or attacked by terrorists. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to go anywhere in the world and still be very safe? Hatred is the basis of terrorism. Peace is the wonderful thing we need in our world today.

In a world without dreams, nothing would ever change and we would never be able to prevent terrorism and war. I think that we should help people around the world who thinks that hatred is the answer to a better life. If we don’t have dreams, people will stop creating things and finding solutions to problems. Dreams are the things that motivate us and can end up solving many puzzling problems. I think Dr. King was a very great man who gave us a great example of what dreams can do.

Martin Luther King

On August twenty-eighth, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I have a dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC.

When I read that speech it inspired me, so I wrote my own. I have a dream that guns and drugs are to taken off the street and out of the hands of teenagers. I have a dream for people that live on the streets to be given homes.

It is necessary for us Americans to have dreams or goals in the future because everyone needs to have a dream. For instance, kids dream of what they want to be when they grow up. Adults dream of the perfect family, house, or job. Older adults dream of what they want to do after retirement.

Also, everyone should have a goal to shoot for a better world or else life wouldn’t be worth that much. I believe you should have a goal no matter what., even if they don’t turn out right, because you can always look back and say that you tried your hardest. I have a dream. Do you?

My Dream for America’s Future

Fifth Grade - First Place

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream for white people and black people to one day be treated equal. He said, “I have a dream that one day, my four children will one day be judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” I agree, all people should be treated equal.

My dream for the future of America is that one day all countries would stop all fighting and realize that we are all the same. Why kill yourself and billions of people just like you because you don’t like them> Some are rich. Others are strong. Right now, because people hate people just like themselves, we all might die! If we could stop that, life would be so much better for everyone on Earth. This is my dream for America.

Everyone Has a Dream

Martin Luther King Jr. and I are very similar. We both have dreams for America. We both accomplish our dreams. We do them in different ways though.

Martin Luther King Jr. wanted everyone to be treated the same. He did not like places that only let white people inside, or places that separated black and white people. Martin Luther King Jr. would make boycotts, speeches, and do other peaceful things.

My dream for America is that people will stop polluting. People are actually killing themselves, and the environment around them. I try to stop pollution by cleaning up the land and planting flowers. I like to help the environment, even in a little way. This is my dream.

Respect
Jessica F.
Fifth Grade - Third Place

It is important that all people respect each other as equals because we are the same on the inside and that’s what counts. It’s not the outside that counts. If we are both living, both have a heart. If we both have veins, we are all the same. My friend Breeah is different from me on the outside, but that doesn’t matter to me. I think that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was right that he had a dream of whites and blacks together. Breeah and I are like best friends. I know that it is important to respect each other equally because even if we are different on the outside everybody knows that we are all the same on the inside and that’s what matters. Not the color.

     This is my dream.

My Dream for America

Fourth Grade - First Place

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream for America. When he was growing up, people that were black had to go to different schools than whites. The black people were treated like slaves. They were not treated equally. When he was a grown man he made his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. After he made this speech he was shot and killed. Now he is remembered by everyone for being a great leader and a preacher for peace and equality for everyone regardless of their race.

My dream for America is to stop the upcoming war between the U.S.A. and Iraq. I just don't like wars because too many innocent people can get killed. Armies from both America and other nations will be killed! I want to help America keep its freedom. I want to help America keep the peace and to have peace throughout the many lands. We do not need anymore wars! I feel that this will not create peace, equality, or freedom for anyone involved.

My Dream
Victoria J.
Fourth Grade - Second Place

Dr. Martin Luther King had a dream for America that whites would treat blacks equally and that blacks could do what they want to do. Martin Luther King and I have a similar dream and that we both believe that problems should not be solved with voilence. I, Victoria, also have a dream for America. My dream for America is that we would not have a war with Iraq. A lot of people will die and be hurt and a lot of land will be destroyed with bombs, nuclear, weapons, battleships, planes, and missles. A lot of houses would be destroyed in the world. Cars, shops, hospitals, trains, trees, computers, tv, and money would change. Everyone in the world would be scared. My dream is that there would not be a war with Iraq.
